Profile Guidelines Part 4: iPar-Server
PROFINET , PROFIBUS , PROFIBUS PA , PROFIsafe , PROFIdrive/Drives , PROFIenergy
Description:
Many field devices require additional technology specific parameters, so-called iParameters that cannot be handled within the GSD domain. For PROFIBUS DP and PROFINET IO several powerful methods are available to allow the assignment of these iParameters via acyclic communication services.
In case of a device defect causing a replacement, those devices always need re-parameterization with their appropriate tools or exchange of memory cards.
The standardized universal parameter server method "iPar-Server" described within this specification allows for storage of the additional iParameters within the host of a PROFIBUS DP master or PROFINET IO controller and recall of these iParameters after a device replacement. Thus, the iParameters are stored close to the GSD based parameters and several synchronization methods are available.
This specification incorporates an annex on test and certification of devices supporting the iPar-Server and additional annexes on the handling of iPar-Server software within hosts of different brands.
Difference between V1.0 and V1.0.1: "Universal Parameter Server" has been renamed to "iPar-Server".
