PROFINET

While upgrading the production facilities of one of Volkswagen´s largest factories, located in Puebla/Mexico, PROFINET was introduced plant-wide.

This application shows the strengths and advantages of PROFINET and proofs the technology to be a robust solution even in complex facilities.

GE Intelligent Platforms was awarded with the 500th PROFINET certificate by PI (PROFIBUS & PROFINET International) at a press conference at the SPS/IPC/DRIVES exhibition in Nuremberg, Germany in November, 2011.

Therefore Marcel van Helten, General Manager of GE Intelligent Platforms and CCS Product Manager, explains in his statement, why GE decided on PROFINET as flagship network.

The PROFI Interface Center in conjunction with PI North America has released a video series on PROFINET Technology which can help engineers and developers understand how PROFINET technology works and what features are available in quick five minute (or less) sessions.

The first two videos of the series have been posted which are an "Introduction to PROFINET technology" and about "Using IO devices with PROFINET".
Future videos will provide information about PROFINET's comprehensive feature list including diagnostics, device replacement, security, safety, proxies, fast start up, wireless and others.
