Description:

The ENCODER Profile is a PROFIBUS and PROFINET profile for Motion Control sensor devices, to have a standardized behaviour and interface (access technique to Encoder data), independent from a manufacturer.

Depending on encoder types the minimum supported functionality of PROFIBUS or PROFINET is mentioned as well as the usage of that functionality.

That minimum functionality and the defined usage are to be checked at a profile test. Also the supported optional functionality according to the profile is to be tested.

Knowledge, test equipment and expertise for ENCODER profile devices are the same than for PROFIdrive devices, therefore the certification test for the ENCODER profile can be performed by any PROFIdrive certified test lab.

The PROFIdrive PROFINET Profile Tester (see Software and Tools) is the tool to carry out the test.

Certificate mandatory for all PROFINET-based PI profiles from 01/01/2022

 

The certifying test of the PROFINET devices is an essential component of PI (PROFIBUS & PROFINET International) quality assurance. This leads to compliant and interoperable devices in the machines and plants. The profiles are integral parts of the device applications and determine the accessible information and part of the device behavior. Therefore, the certifying test will also be mandatory for the missing profiles PROFIdrive and  Encoder from 01/01/2022. The certifying test for the PA profile will get mandatory as soon as available. The corresponding stipulations were made in the new version of the document "How to get a certificate for a PROFINET device" (Order No .: 2.922n V1.9 from June 2021). The document is part of the test bundle of Test System 2.42.1.
