Profile Guidelines Part 3: Diagnosis, Alarms and Time Stamping

PROFINET , PROFIBUS , PROFIBUS PA , PROFIsafe , PROFIdrive/Drives , PROFIenergy

Description:

Committee 3 within PI decided to publish a series of profile guidelines dealing with the most important common features of PROFIBUS slave devices. This part 3 is dealing with the different aspects of diagnosis, the various means and levels provided by the PROFIBUS DP standards, some additional helpful features like LED indicators and recommended best practice design patterns for field devices.

The expected benefit is an improvement of the quality of information for the user in case of faults, a more uniform system handling in order to reduce engineering costs via standard software within controllers, and an optimized overall system performance.

These general profile guidelines are reducing the effort for individual application profiles for device families and represent an agreement between the communicating partners on PROFIBUS DP: controllers (master class 1 devices), field devices (slaves), and engineering or monitoring devices (master class 2).
